We commonly say we "admire" something or someone. I even have folks on my blog sidebar that I "respect and/or admire". This might be because I agree with some of the things they stand for, They may support a cause I am passionate about, They might just be someone who brings others joy. (as we ALL are capable of doing)
I've been thinking about this word a lot lately, Not sure why. I think maybe because I want my children to "admire" and "respect" me... not just for the things I tell them, but for how I choose to live my life. The decisions I make every day now affect not only myself but 3 little lives as well. Then if you count all of the people we come in contact with daily, weekly, even for a moment, my actions affect a LOT of people!
I'm thinking I can choose to be overwhelmed by thinking that or embrace it and continue to focus on living a faith filled life and hope that rubs off.
Then I think about it in the context of "celebrity". Being someone who LOVES acting, writing etc. and Dreams of someday actually seeing something I've helped create see the light of day.... I have some sense of compassion thinking about all of the people that "admire" celebrities or are "fans". I recently logged on to Twitter - mostly just to follow some random posts from folks. Some people are just STRANGE! The things people post online and in blogs and on websites about certain celebrities is ridiculous! For example: do people actually think that by posting "I Love you, please call me, or even "here is my address, just stop by" that someone "famous" is going to do it? Good Grief!
Don't get me wrong, I have a LONG list of folks that I think are AMAZING at their profession and I do admire them. For example: Jeffrey Donovan, Matthew Perry, Michael Vartan, Mariska Hargitay, Mary McCormack to name just a few.... but people come on.... proposals via twitter or tvblog sites? That seems to me a bit excessive on the admiration front.
To be admired, hopefully for something meaningful is an admirable goal
(hehe, see how I did that?)
Praying we all find ways to admire and be admirable while shining for Christ.
XOXO
